We as Austin Tamizh Palli have evolved in the past years and want to propose the following events in the current academic year. This is aimed at an extension of our mission to bring in fun-filled, learning to speak, write and interact in Tamizh. Based on registration, we can have spread these across few weeks and finals, if required.

Tamizh pechu potti : Let’s conduct school-wide pechu pottiduct school-wide pechu potti

a. Category – 1: Age 5 – 9
b. Category – 2: Age 10 – 14
Topic: Some generic one (for example: engal palli, thai mozhi kalvi, sevai sei ) and give that at least few weeks in advance for preparation.
Duration: Max 5 min
Kids can work with parents to build their speech on the topic.
We can also make the Top-2 of each category speak in Our annual day celebrations.

Tamizh katturai potti: School katturai potti and we may have to start this from Nilai-3 or 4 onwards (where kids should have already some level of practice on writing paragraphs ).

a. Category – 1: Nilai-3 to 5
b. Category – 2: Nilai 6 and above

Duration: 45 min – 1 hour
Topic: Some generic one like ( engal palli, thai mozhi kalvi, sevai sei, naalaya ulagam ) and give that at least few weeks in advance for preparation.
Kids can prepare the content and rehearse at home and come on that day and write the essay. We can publish all write-ups in our school site and publish the Top-3 in our school magazine.

Paatu potti – Tamizh songs (different age categories), Duration : 5 min

Drawing potti – Painting / Drawing competition ( Pandaya tamizhar, Tanjai peria kovil, Thiruvalluvar / Avvayar / Bharathiar ).
Duration: 1 ½ hours

a. Category – 1: Age 5 – 9
b. Category – 2: Age 10 – 14
Besides painting/drawing, kids should give orals about what they are trying to communicate with this.

Tamizh Debate: Our grown-up kids have been doing debates in their middle school and we can conduct that in our school as well. We can give the topic in advance and let them come prepared ( with the rule being DEBATE IN TAMIZH )

Annual Sports Day: Can we convert our picnic day into a sports day event. We already do that in bits and pieces and we can do

a. We can start the class a little early run for 15 min and rest of the time conduct sports day.
b. March past ( if possible ), create like GREEN, BLUE, RED, YELLOW Houses with captains and conduct the following :
i. 100 meters, 50 meters, sack/frog race, relay race
ii. Long jump, throw (we can use Tennis ball or something)
iii. Make teachers participate in sports events and run the race as well
Create a sense of teamwork, develop leadership skills
